Commencement for the 96th graduating class of Holy Name High School took place on Friday,May 23 at St Columbkille Church. The ceremony began with clergy, faculty and graduates processing into the music of Pomp and Circumstance.

After out-going principal Mr. Ben Farmer greeted and welcomed guests, Mrs. Mary Eileen Wallace ’85, campus minister, opened with prayer.

Graduate Rebecca Newhouse gave the first reading followed by a responsorial psalm by Ryan Leonard. Samantha Miranda did a second scripture reading. The student address was given by Taylor Verba. The senior ensemble then did a musical interlude.

Mr. Farmer then introduced the guest alumni speaker, John Banaszak ’68. Mr.Banaszak is the head football coach at Robert Morris College and a former three time winner of the Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

New principal Mrs. Shelbrey Blanc’95 announced recognition of Academic Honors and then called the graduates to come forth and receive their diplomas. Mr. Kevin Ontko ’91 gave concluding
remarks and prayer.

The graduates sang the alma mater one last time as a class and then processed to the music of “Ode to Jot.”
