2014-2015 Winter Sports Update
The Holy Name Green Wave Winter Sports Teams have been busy preparing for their season openers, and are now ready to kick-off successful 2014-2015 campaigns! Here are quick snapshots of our girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, hockey, wrestling and bowling teams.

Girls’ Basketball
After a successful preseason, the HN girls’ basketball team has seen much growth in a roster that boasts four sophomores and three freshmen on the roster. Head Coach Kim Jones said, “We will look to the experience of our four seniors – Toni Dickson, Mary Ehrbar, Rachel Kucharczyk and Anne McKeiver – to lead the way as we start on our quest for a fourth North Coast League title and our third straight District title.” The Lady Namers open their season Sunday afternoon, November 30 against Canton South at the Stark County Hoopfest, being held at Walsh University. They return home on Tuesday, December 3 to face North Royalton, with the freshmen game beginning at 4:30 p.m. < Girls Basketball Web Page >

Boys’ Basketball
The Holy Name boys’ basketball team is working hard in preparation for the 2014-2015 season. Head Coach Jeff Huber said, “The team this year will be led by four seniors: captains Jack Ehrbar and Lawrynce Johnson, as well as Reno Spanulo and Aidan Waple. They will lead a very young varsity team that includes one junior, seven sophomores and one freshman.” All three teams (freshmen, junior varsity and varsity) open their seasons Tuesday, December 9 at Valley Forge. The boys then make their home debut on Tuesday, December 16 against rival Padua Franciscan. Game time for both contests begins at 4:30 p.m., with the freshmen taking the court first. < Boys Basketball Web Page >

Hockey
Due to graduating 13 seniors from last season’s District runner-up team, the Holy Name hockey team will look very different this year. However, the team looks for continual success. Head Coach Tim Sullivan said, “I know a lot of people look at our program as a changed program, after graduating so many. I just look at it as new faces carrying on the same work ethic that helped this program get to where it is today.” The Green Wave start off the season with the Walsh Thanksgiving Tournament, facing Toledo St. John’s over the Thanksgiving weekend. They have their home opener at Parma’s Ries Ice Rink on Saturday, December 6 at 8:30 p.m. versus Padua Franciscan. < Hockey Home Web Page >

Wrestling
Green Wave wrestlers will return to the mats when they compete in the Nationwide Classic, taking place at Lorain High School. Matches begin at 4 p.m. on December 5, and then 10 a.m. on December 6. HN will have one home tri-match at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2015 versus Garfield Heights and Villa Angela-St. Joseph. < Wrestling Web Page >

Bowling
Our HN Bowlers have already opened their season, taking to the lanes last Saturday against Westlake. They return to the bowling alley Saturday, November 29 at 9 a.m., for a match-up against Brecksville-Broadview Heights at Buckeye Lanes. < Bowling Web Page >
