On Thursday, January 29, talented Holy Name Students took part in the Winter Shakespeare Festival. The night began with The English Speaking National Shakespeare Competition. Three students – senior Kathryn Suvak and juniors Sarah Durma and Mason Kuhr – presented memorized Shakespeare monologues to the audience and judges. All three did a terrific job, with Mason Kuhr being named the winner and Holy Name’s representative at the Northern Ohio Regional Shakespeare Competition to be held at the Cleveland Play House.

Following the Shakespeare Competition, the Winter One Act titled A Merry Regiment of Women was performed. The student actresses and actors portrayed different characters from Shakespeare’s plays, including Romeo and Juliet, Lady Macbeth, Cleopatra, Kate the Shrew and Petruchio, King Henry V and Desdemona. Throughout this comedy, the students did a wonderful job with their dialogues and arguing with one another about why women seem to play a lesser role in Shakespeare’s plays than men.
