On Thursday, February 5, students, teachers and administrators from Holy Name traveled to St. Mary of the Woods in Avon to celebrate the 100th birthday of alumnus, Francis (Frank) Sroka ’33! The special day began with a Mass celebrated in honor of Frank, who was also joined by many of his children and grandchildren. HN’s Music Ministry group, directed by Theology Teacher Sara Gresko ’08, led all of the liturgical hymns and songs.

After the Mass, the HN Students Making a Difference (SMAD) Club surprised Frank with hundreds of birthday cards and a memory board filled with pictures and stories from his own days as a student at HN. They also gave him a new HN mug as well as a hat and sweatshirt, which he immediately wanted to try on!

Additionally, Director of Constituent Relations Colleen Corrigan Day ’88 presented Frank and his family with several happy birthday proclamations and letters from cities and local congresspeople, including Parma Heights, Parma, U.S. Representative for Ohio’s Ninth Congressional District Marcy Kaptur, State Senator for Ohio’s 23rd District Michael J. Skindell and State Representative for Ohio’s 14th District Martin J. Sweeney.

Thank you to the following students, teachers and administrators who helped make this day possible, and shared their voices and smiles with all residents of St. Mary’s of the Woods on Thursday:
