A big Green Wave congratulations goes to Jordyn Kachmar ’16 (Seven Hills/St. Columbkille) and her volleyball teammates on the Academy Volleyball of Cleveland (AVC) 17 National 1 Team, who won the AAU National Championship 17 Open Division Title on June 23! This is the first national championship title in the AVC’s history.
While participating in the tournament, which was held at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida, the team won 10 matches of the 13 they played in a four-day period. They clinched the national title by defeating Illini Elite Cardinal from Illinois 25-21, 29-27. The match was broadcast on ESPN3.
Jordyn has played with the AVC for seven years, and has been playing at the National 1 level for two years. She is a senior libero on the Holy Name Volleyball Team, with this season being her third on varsity. Jordyn also excels in the classroom, as she was inducted into the National Honor Society last year. She has verbally committed to continue her volleyball and academic career at the University of Hartford, a Division I college in Connecticut. We are proud of her accomplishments, and look forward to cheering for Jordyn and the entire Holy Name volleyball program when they begin playing again this fall!
