Third and Fourth Period Semester Exams
December 18, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 11:15 am
The exams will take place over a four-day period, beginning Monday, December 17 and continuing through Thursday, December 20. A complete exam schedule is attached to this email for you and your student to review. Semester exams are mandatory.
Please refer to page 9 of the Parent-Student Handbook regarding successful completion of the semester. We alert you to the fact that a student must pass two of the three grading opportunities in the semester (i.e. First Quarter, Second Quarter, and the Semester Exam) in order to gain credit for a course and avoid summer school. The student would then be required to take the course in the summer to recover the necessary credit. Failure to recover the required credit by August 15, 2019 would result in the student being unable to return to Holy Name High School.
If school should be canceled due to the weather during exam week, the exam schedule will be extended by the number of days school is closed. For example, if school is canceled on Tuesday, the Tuesday exams will be administered on Wednesday, December 19. If school is canceled on Thursday, the Thursday exam schedule will run on Monday, January 7, the day classes resume.
Here are a few important reminders in regards to the exam schedule:
There are no homeroom periods during exam week. Exams will begin promptly at 8 a.m. each day. Students may leave after their last exam of the day.
Each day there will be two exam periods. First and second period on Monday; third and fourth period on Tuesday; fifth and sixth period on Wednesday; and seventh and eighth period on Thursday. Each exam period is 90 minutes long. Students will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m. each day due to the semester exam schedule.
If your student has a study hall, he or she does not need to report to study hall during exam week. However, the cafeteria will be available for supervised study during all periods. Students who are in the building during their study hall period must report to the cafeteria for supervision.
Following testing on any day, students will be instructed to wait in the cafeteria for their rides. For those students who cannot be picked up by 11:15 a.m. on exam days, supervision will be available. The schedule is as follows:
Monday, December 17: Supervision in the Cafeteria until 3 p.m.
Tuesday, December 18: Supervision in the Cafeteria until 3 p.m.
Wednesday, December 19: Supervision in the Cafeteria until 3 p.m.
Thursday, December 20: Supervision in the Cafeteria until 12 p.m. At this time, ALL students must vacate the building. No one will be permitted to remain in the building after 12 p.m. on Tuesday.
Bus transportation from the respective public school systems will be provided every morning. However, there will be NO afternoon busing on exam days. Students must arrange for their own afternoon transportation on those four days.
If a student is ill and misses an exam, he or she is responsible for arranging a make-up exam with the teacher as soon as possible.
After the final exam is given on Thursday, December 20, students will begin Christmas Break. Christmas Break will go from Friday, December 21 to Friday, January 4. Classes resume on Monday, January 7.
