About the Scholarship

The Holy Name Music Scholarship is available to current 8th graders interested in attending Holy Name High School for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Scholarships range from $500 to $2,000 and are awarded to students who demonstrate their musical abilities through the audition process.

Additional Audition Information

• Auditions are 10 minutes in length.

• If your student plays more than one instrument, please select one to be used for auditions.

Brass, Woodwind, and String Auditions

Please prepare one octave of the following major scales:

C instruments: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab
F instruments: G, C, F, Bb, Eb
Bb instruments: D, G, C, F, Bb
Eb instruments: A, D, G, C, F
String instruments: D, C, G, A, F

• Prepare a piece that best represents your musical abilities.

• A short sight-reading excerpt will be provided.

Percussion Auditions

Please prepare two rudiments on snare drum*, either Steady Best Tempo or Open-Close-Open:

• Double Stroke Open Roll

• Single Paradiddle

• Flam

• Drag

• Nine Stroke Roll

• Flam Tap

Prepare a piece that best represents your musical abilities.
A short sight-reading excerpt will be provided.

*A snare drum will be provided; please bring snare sticks.

Please prepare one octave of the following major scales on a mallet instrument*: C and Bb.
*Bells and marimba will be provided with mallets; students may choose which instrument to play.

Vocal Auditions

• Prepare a piece that best represents your musical abilities.

• You may use your own accompaniment recording if desired.

Vocal auditions will also include:

• A pitch-matching exercise with the piano.

• A short sight-reading excerpt.

Piano Auditions

Please prepare two octaves, hands together of the following major scales: D, G, C, F, Bb.

Choose two pieces that best represent your musical abilities (preferably one “fast” and one “slow” piece).
A short sight-reading excerpt will be provided.
