OVERVIEW

At Holy Name High School, the World Languages Department helps students open their minds and hearts to the richness of global culture through language. We believe that learning another language is not just an academic pursuit — it is an act of connection, empathy, and respect for the human person.

Rooted in our Catholic mission, the study of language invites students to encounter others as brothers and sisters in Christ. Through communication, students learn to appreciate different perspectives, recognize shared values, and engage more fully in the global community.

Language is more than words — it is a reflection of the soul of a people. Our program equips students with the linguistic, cultural, and analytical tools to understand and participate in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.

Courses emphasize:

  • Cultural Understanding – exploring the traditions, histories, and social values of other nations

  • Authentic Communication – developing reading, writing, listening, and speaking proficiency

  • Faith and Humanity – recognizing the beauty of God’s creation in every culture

  • Critical Thinking – analyzing language patterns and intercultural connections

By combining intellectual rigor with a moral and humanistic lens, students grow as compassionate communicators and responsible global citizens.
