DEPARTMENT OF FINE ARTS
Our Fine Arts Curriculum
The Fine Arts Department offers programs that help our students gain a newfound appreciation for various artists and learn valuable skills they can take with them on their journey toward a future career. Our arts curriculum is made up of three primary components:
Visual Arts
Students gain expressive, hands-on learning experiences through the visual arts. Here, you will explore the foundational elements of the subject matter, build upon what you have learned, and gain additional knowledge through trial and error. Students will develop the following:
Observational skills
Technical skills
Self-expression
Our educators incorporate art history and art criticism into the curriculum. This helps our students better understand artistic motives and perspectives and how these can be applied to their own work. We take great pride in our visual arts program and its ability to promote artistic competencies, as well as thoughtful reflection.
Music
Our music department teaches students musical techniques, time management, and productive practice/rehearsal habits. Students participate in community events, such as athletic games, parades, and religious services. Holy Name High School performance groups include:
Choir
String Ensemble
Jazz Band
Symphonic Band
Marching Band
Students are encouraged to practice outside the classroom and private lessons are available. Some courses offered blend visual arts and music history, helping students make valuable connections and broaden their education.
Digital Media
The Fine Arts Department offers a wide range of digital media courses. Students work with industry-leading software and tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite and Wacom drawing tablets, learning how to create and present work in print and online formats. They can also explore filming, movie creation, and website design through advanced courses.
The yearbook plays a vital role in our digital media program and Holy Name High School's history. Students are responsible for commemorating each year through photographs and journalistic writing, exploring page layout techniques, design skills, book creation concepts, and more.
