Here it all is, in one place

Academic help

  • English and math tutoring. One-on-one or in a small group.
  • Writing Lab. Helps students with the writing process: organizing ideas, grammar, and revising their work.
  • Peer tutoring. Peer Tutoring through National Honor Society.
  • Freshman Seminar. A class for ninth graders, designed to prepare students for high school.

Written plans

  • A Holy Name Service plan written from your child’s IEP or ISP. Their plan will be transitioned to our service plans which will offer instruction and support in math, reading, comprehension and writing. They will also receive support in planning, time management, organization, and task initiation.
  • An Accommodation Plan from a 504 plan, a new diagnosis, or an injury like a concussion. It lists changes in class and on tests.
  • Each student has one plan (ISP or Accommodation Plan), not both.

Accommodations

  • On tests: extra time, small group, short breaks, and use of a calculator. On state tests: small group, extra time, and short breaks.
  • In class: a seat where your child focuses best, a copy of the class notes, a calculator, charts that help plan writing, and teacher check-ins.
  • Your child stays in regular classes and asks when they need help.

Student Support

  • Coordinator of Student Support: Julie Andolina. Intervention Specialist: Chelsea Burke. Your first calls.
  • Mental health counselor: Mrs. Wendy Ferian, for stress and hard weeks.
  • Intervention Assistance Team: teachers and staff who look out for students having a hard time and do not have a plan yet. You do not need a plan to get help.
  • Guidance counselors: Mrs. Beth Ritt, Mrs. Becky Bihari, and Mr. Mike Kelley, assigned by last name.

Before you apply

Every student does the same assignments and tests. A plan does not shorten assignments, cut homework, or add test retakes. We do not provide speech therapy, occupational therapy (help with hand skills), or lessons in sounding out words.

First step: send your child’s IEP, 504 plan, or latest evaluation to Ms. Keri Wach, Director of Admissions.

Holy Name does not take part in Ohio’s Jon Peterson Scholarship, the state program for students with an IEP. We take EdChoice, another state scholarship. A student can use only one in a school year. Admissions will go over tuition help for your family.

Tell us what your child needs. Before you apply, we will tell you the support your student will be able to receive at Holy Name.

Common questions

Does Holy Name take the Jon Peterson Scholarship?

No. Jon Peterson is Ohio’s state scholarship for students with an IEP, and Holy Name does not take part in it. We take EdChoice, another state scholarship. A student can use only one in a school year. Admissions will go over tuition help for your family.

What happens to my child’s IEP or 504 plan?

An IEP or ISP becomes a Holy Name Service plan, with instruction and support in math, reading, comprehension and writing. A 504 plan, a new diagnosis, or an injury becomes an Accommodation Plan. Each student has one plan, not both.

Does my child have to ask for help?

Your child stays in regular classes and asks when they need help. Teachers and staff on the Intervention Assistance Team also look out for students having a hard time, with or without a plan.
