The Sacrament of Reconciliation
Reconciliation is an essential part of spiritual growth
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a profound encounter with God’s mercy. In Confession, we acknowledge our sins, express sorrow, and receive the healing forgiveness of Christ. Through this sacrament, students experience God’s love in a personal way and are strengthened to live as faithful disciples.
Reconciliation is an essential part of spiritual growth, helping students reflect honestly on their lives, overcome struggles, and renew their commitment to follow Jesus.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation
-
Our chaplain, Fr. Joe Menkhaus, offers the Sacrament of Reconciliation:
• By appointment throughout the year
• Once each month following a Wednesday morning Chapel MassStudents may register online for the monthly opportunity or contact Fr. Joe or Deacon Mark to schedule another time. Fr. Joe is always happy to make time for anyone seeking God’s mercy.
-
During Advent and Lent, Holy Name hosts schoolwide opportunities for Confession. On these days, several priests from across the Diocese of Cleveland join us to hear Confessions, making it possible for every student to participate.
These communal celebrations help students prepare their hearts for Christmas and Easter, reflect on their lives, and experience the peace that comes from God’s forgiveness.
-
Students are encouraged to take time for prayer and reflection before receiving the sacrament. Campus Ministry provides resources to help students examine their conscience and approach Confession with honesty and trust in God’s mercy.
For many students, this sacrament becomes a powerful moment of renewal — a chance to begin again with confidence in God’s love.
-
Reconciliation reminds us that no mistake is greater than God’s mercy. Through Confession, students discover that forgiveness is not about shame but about healing, freedom, and the opportunity to start anew.
DIFFERENT HERE.
It all begins WITH A NAME. THE NAME that grounds our faith, strengthens our work, and shapes our hearts—Jesus. at holy name, faith is our foundation, hard work builds EXCELLENCE, and heart brings it all to life. being a namer means bearing his name proudly—and that makes all the difference.
