Theatre Program

The theatre program at Holy Name High School is dedicated to theatre education within the context of a Catholic environment. The theatre program provides entertainment opportunities for the school community, and educates students on self-confidence, teamwork, empathy, creativity, and how they view the world around them. Students from freshmen to seniors work together as part of the performing arts community.

Theatre opportunities include Drama Club, Fall Play, and Spring Musical. Students are invited to participate in as many of the theatre program experiences as they are interested, as each area is independent of each other.

Students involved in additional school activities, such as clubs and sports, are welcome to join; arrangements with coaches and moderators can be made on an individual basis.

How to Take Part

Two productions during the school year provide opportunities for students to participate in on-stage and off-stage theatre experiences. All students are welcome to participate for each production as actors through the audition process or as crew members/musicians through a registration process.

  1. Actors

Actors who act, sing, and/or dance. Students take part as actors through the audition process.

  2. Crew

Crew members who assist with lighting, sound, props, and/or the set. Students take part as crew members through a registration process.

  3. Pit Musicians

Musicians who perform in the musical pit. Students take part as musicians through a registration process.

  4. Drama Club

Outside of participating in a production, Drama Club provides additional theatre experiences for students throughout the year.

A male dancer lifts his partner as she extends her arms and leg during a dance number on stage. A group of student actresses stand together on stage laughing and smiling, several with a hand on their chest mid-song. Two students spin together while dancing on stage, their hair flying with the motion. A row of student actresses lean forward with arms outstretched in a choreographed dance move on stage. A student in a gold coat raises both hands in a wide-eyed, dramatic gesture while performing on stage. Two costumed students sit on a bench, one speaking while the other looks down at her clasped hands. Five students in western shirts and hats gather on the set, one pinning a small straw scarecrow to another student's collar while a third holds a matching scarecrow doll. A student in a black tailcoat leans toward a door handle while three other students peek out of one doorway behind him. A full cast celebrates on stage, arms raised, around a bride and groom in front of a house set. Two students in formal jackets stand face to face on stage, one of them holding an envelope marked confidential. A student in a maid costume stands on a stage set beside a chair, glancing back over her shoulder while holding a feather duster. Three students in costume stand together on a stage set between doorways. The cast is arranged across the wide paneled set, some seated on a sofa and others standing, as a student in a tuxedo points dramatically at another student in a brown suit near a small desk. A student in a blue dress walks and talks toward a seated student reading a book in front of a painted bookshelf backdrop. A student in a red dress and a student in a gold coat stand close together on a dim stage, holding hands as they speak. A performer in a police-style costume listens as another dressed in a tuxedo gestures while speaking, standing among a row of doors on the set. A group of costumed performers sing and react together on stage, with expressive open-mouthed expressions and raised hands. A line of costumed performers stand together applauding on stage, one holding a wrench prop overhead, in front of a red multi-door set with room signs. A student in a cowboy hat sings while standing behind a seated classmate churning butter on a dimly lit stage with a laundry line backdrop. A student in a blue floral dress and white apron pulls a white sheet down from a clothesline strung across the stage. A student dressed as a cowboy sits on a wooden bench, holding a clothesline strung with laundry, singing toward the audience. A student rests her head on another student's shoulder on a bench while he sings with his arm raised. Three students in plaid shirts bend forward with arms around each other in a comic dance move, while others react behind them. A large group of students in costume dance together on stage with their arms raised, in front of a painted house and clothesline. Two students dressed as cowboys dance in the spotlight while other performers move behind them on stage. A line of costumed students link arms across the stage and kick the same leg out together. A large group of costumed students pose together and smile on a set built to look like a house porch. A costumed student stands alone on stage with arms spread wide, singing in front of a hanging clothesline. Two student actors stand close together on stage, one with an arm around the other, both mid-song. A boy dressed as a cowboy holds his hat and talks quietly to another boy in overalls, who looks down, against a dark background. A student in an apron and glasses smiles warmly while standing on stage. A large group of students in colorful dresses and western wear dance together in a circle, holding hands.
